Simulation of a melting material

Material point method and its growing range of solvers allow a wider range of material behaviors to be simulated in computer graphics. Although there has been a precedent of using material point method for heat transport and melting materials, the cell-centered and explicit heat solve can lead to instability.

This weak form implicit heat solver based on thermal elasticity theory renders more physically accurate results. We experiment with changes in Lamé's parameters as temperature increases, which results in changes in elasticity. The constitutive model of thermoelastic solid satisfies the laws of thermodynamics.
